Hi, I'm Laura Mays, an aspiring Artist who specialises in creating digital art of animals and creatures.

I achieved a Merit in UAL Level 3 Art and Design (Graphic Design) in 2019 and was accepted onto Falmouth University's BA (Hons) Illustration course, which I began in September of that year. However, I had to intermit due to ill health less than 3 months later.

In March 2020 I developed severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this, I opted to permanently withdraw from my course.

Since then I have been developing my skills independently and growing a following on social media, in tandem with recovering from my OCD.

​

I am inspired by animals and nature, as well as media that focuses on both. I am particularly inspired by entries in the Monster Taming media and game genre, especially Pokémon and Digimon, which have been inspirations for me since childhood. I am also inspired by the science fiction movie AVATAR (2009), and documentaries about prehistoric life, especially BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs (1999).

I enjoy doing self-study about both Human and Animal anatomy in order to accurately portray the subjects I draw and paint. I especially like to draw foxes, horses and cervidae, as well as creating my own creatures. I like learning about both extinct and extant life and using the information I find to inform my pieces.
